Migration to Australia

The Buckman family came to Australia in the late 1830's, the first to arrive being John BUCKMAN (1811 - 1887) who came to New South Wales with his family on the AMELIA THOMPSON which arrived in Sydney on 1 July 1838. Unfortunately, his wife ??? and child died on the voyage of Cholera.

Next to arrive were Ruth (1811 - ??), Jabez (1818 - 1901) and Gideon (1821 - 1898) who arrived in Sydney on 25 July 1839 aboard the STRATHFIELDSAYE.

We know that the parents of these four Buckman children died in Australia but have not as yet been able to determine when they arrived. The passenger lists for both the AMELIA THOMPSON and the STRATHFIELDSAYE do not record their names. They were James BUCKMAN (1770 - 1844) and Susannah PRICE (1780 - 1848).
The chart below shows the family tree for James and Susannah.
